I’m begging you to tell me your thoughts, interpretations, resonations (is that a word? idk.)
Thank you for reading <3 I genuinely appreciate it.
Dangit Ramona! I was expecting this on Friday! I wanted to be first! 😭
Next level experimentation with formatting. I'm glad you gave the middle finger to Substack and did it anyways, this piece rocks and the site is better for it being here.
Lass, this poem is heavy. It tricks you at first and you think it’s this sweeping astronomical romance, but then you realize it’s actually about the "machinery" of it all. The Sun and the Moon are there acting like lovers, but they aren't actually choosing to be together, they’re just stuck in this orbit they can't escape. It’s gravity, not chemistry. It's kismet. But the role that's really brutal is the narrator. You write them like they think they’re part of the relationship, a neglected third in the mix, but they aren't a partner at all. They aren't invisible by mistake, they’re invisible by design.
That "self-erasure" bit? Ooft. "Taking her light and passing it to him", in some twisted devotion when really they're just disappearing? Gut punch. It’s not even that the love isn't returned, they were never even in the game, never in the relationship. They were just the eyes that made the other two look good.
The fact that my read is just one facet of the overall meaning behind the whole thing says a lot for the avenues it takes and what can be derived.
Fantastic! 🖤🩸👏
This felt like such a fresh breath of air! Absolutely loved this format!!
